The 2009 Lexus LS 600h L is built on the idea of mating a powerful V8 engine to a hybrid powertrain in order to deliver stunning 12-cylinder performance without the wasteful appetite for fuel.

A full-hybrid system comprised of two electric motor/generators and a 389-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 powers the Lexus LS 600h L, which can operate solely under electric propulsion at low speed and for limited distances in order to maximize its fuel economy. The air-conditioning system runs off electric power, allowing the gas engine to shut down at stops, and the regenerative braking system generates additional power when decelerating. Reaching the 0-60 MPH threshold in a mere 5.5 seconds, the LS 600h L is still able to retain a great fuel economy of 20 mpg city/22 mpg highway and 21 mpg in combined driving. The Super Ultralow-Emission Vehicle (SULEV) designation is also something the LS 600h L can brag about.

The Lexus engineers do not spare on any detail, especially in regards to safety in their luxury performance sedans. The LS 600h L is equipped with traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and knee airbags for the front seats. A pre-collision system (PCS) that comes packaged with adaptive cruise control is another safety option, which uses a radar sensor to detect obstacles in front of the car. If the computer determines that a collision is inevitable, it pre-emptively stiffens the suspension, provides pretension in the front seatbelts and initializes brake assist so increased braking can be applied the instant the brake pedal is pressed.

The Lexus engineers devoted themselves to making the interior cabin of the 2009 Lexus LS 600h L as refined and luxurious as possible.
